When Bunty Walia first announced his venture titled Just Punjabi earlier this year, it seemed to be a casting coup of sorts. The film boasted of a never seen before starcast with Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead. Although Sanjay Dutt and Ash had come together for David Dhawan’s Hum Kissise Kum Nahin, Ash was paired with Ajay Devgan in that film.

Walia’s project was to be launched soon, but somehow it did not take off. Initially, it was Apoorva Lakhia who was to direct it, but had to opt out due to other commitments. It was then heard that Aishwarya was giving Bunty a tough time and was not taking the producer’s calls. When contacted, Walia rubbishes the rumours.

“Aishwarya has committed to do my film on principle. We have yet to work out the formalities and make an official announcement. Even Sanjay and Abhishek have agreed to do my film. The paper work has yet to be finalised. So, it is ridiculous to hear that Aishwarya is avoiding my calls. She is not avoiding me,” Walia clarifies.

Walia explains that Just Punjabi is still in the scripting stage and once that is complete, the film would be launched. “Making the lead actors sign the formal agreement without the script being complete did not make sense. The script will be ready soon,” he explains.

Walia plans to rope in an established director for the film. “Apoorva was to do the film earlier. However, he had committed himself to other films and therefore, he opted out. There are talks on with an established director. It is only when he has signs on the dotted line will we formally announce his name and the official starcast,” says Walia.

An SMS says, "Take 3 slips to examination hall, distribute to 3 people and ask them to give his 3 slips to another 3.And ask him 2 promise that they will do the same".

Another SMS says, "Say 3 people to watch Stalin and tell them to say another 3 each to watch Stalin for the touching elements in it". It is obvious that the people who disliked the film are sending this SMS in other way round.

Adding to this, industry circles say that Brahmanandam is the richest comedian now, who has the property worth many crores. Industry grapevine says that his property has almost neared Chiranjeevi's property. 'Magadheera' directed by Gautham Menon of 'Gharshana'-fame with Kamal Haasan, Jyothika and Kamalini Mukherjee in the lead was released in Tamil recently and created ripples as a big hit.

The film with a psycho-thriller in the backdrop, is being dubbed into Telugu by D Rajavarma. Kamal is playing the role of a tough cop in this action flick.

Harris Jayaraj had provided music for the film, while Ravi Varma of Aparichitudu-fame is behind the camera. The film will make it to the marquees in the first week of October.

MUMBAI: Not many know Bipasha was offered to play the role of what Kangana Ranaut is playing in Woh Lamhe. But she refused to do the role because Emraan was cast opposite her.

Not that Bipasha has a problem with Emraan’s kissing image but it was just that she thought she would look taller and bigger in front of Emraan Hashmi. Interestingly Bipasha played Emraan Hashmi’s sister in his debut film Footpath.

Later even Emraan walked out of the movie because he felt that he does not have a very strong role in the film. Mohit Suri, who is Emraan Hashmi’s cousin wanted him in all his movies but could not do so in this one.

Woh Lamhe now stars Kangana Ranaut and Shiney Ahuja in place of Bipasha Basu and Emraan Hashmi. Woh Lamhe is slated to release on 29th September, 2006.

Rumours have it that the remake rights of the sequel to Shankardada has been bought for a whopping amount of ten crores. Heard the original sum paid to the first version was 2.5 crore.

But this seems to be a bit too much. Others say that the ten crore quoted and paid was for all the south Indian languages. Chiranjeevi said he would do the film if it comes to him but the gossip mongers circulate that he might not do it.

However Gemini Film Circuit is keen that the title role should be taken over by Chiranjeevi. If he doesn’t it will be a matter of great speculation as to who would do the role.

From Omkara to Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Bollywood is churning out multi-starrers like never before. But its southern counterpart, Kollywood is focusing on action-packed thrillers where just one hero is the 'be all and end all'.

While the actors blame it on the scripts, the directors blame it on the ego of the stars. "Heroes are extremely possessive about their movies and want their films to be known only by them. Actors have a separate fan-follow and the actors don’t want to disappoint them," Tamil Director Bala says.

Tamil cinema's two pillars, Kamal Hassan and Rajnikanth have done about 16 movies together-but that's in the early days of their career.

As they grew into larger than life figures, they have stayed separate on the silver screen in the recent past.

Actors Surya and Vikram came together for Pithamagan but soon the on-screen chemistry vanished resulting in an unspoken clash between the two. Even young heroes want to be single on-screen now.

"There are a lot of good directors who can do it. But resistance is from the heroes who're saying that gimme a single-hero subject," says Tamil Actor Arya.

Thus it might take some time before we see Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan, Vijay, Ajith, Vikram together in one film. Till the stars agree to share the screen space, the audience will have to wait for a multi-starrer.

Stalin Sensation in Silicon Valley

History has been created with the biggest ever opening in USA on a weekday, with unprecedented screening of 2 shows of MegaStar Chiranjeevi blockbuster Stalin. Stalin was screened at 8:00PM with a special show for the fans and 11:00PM. Tickets were sold out well ahead of time. Hundreds of enthusiastic fans had taken off early from work in Silicon Valley with a common goal of getting to Park Theater well ahead of time to take part in the grand celebrations that typically accompany a Chiranjeevi movie in the Silicon Valley.

The atmosphere outside the theater was electric with kids & adults lost in the mania donning Tilakam with red ribbons tied around their forehead screaming at the top of their lungs "StarStar MegaStar", "Chiru" etc. in support of their idol and MegaStar Chiranjeevi. It appeared as if we were watching a movie in any theatre in Andhra Pradesh. The fans were entually let into the theatre 30 minutes before show time. The inside of the theatre then became a mini mela with fans dancing to Chiru hit songs and screaming in anticipation of the big opening of Stalin. There was absolute pandemonium with screams drowning out the powerful audio system in the hall when Chiru made his first appearance on the screen and this continued through the movie whenever Chiru broke into his unique dance steps or delivered a typical Chiru dialogue. Screaming fans throwing confetti was common occurrence during the movie.

A special video of Chiranjeevi's life, his movies, awards, philanthropy and achievements of his illustrious career was presented to the fans at the interval.

History has been created once again with another Grand Opening of a Chiranjeevi movie.

Lawrence to direct Nagarjuna as 'Don'

Choreographer Lawrence who turned director with 'Mass' proved himself as director with 'Style' again.

Presently he is directing a Tamil film 'Muni'. The film is likely to be released simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu as Sankranthi gift.

Meanwhile, Lawrence had prepared another good subject for Nagarjuna and it is christened as 'Don'. The producer is making efforts to launch the film on December 23, the release day of 'Mass'.

ML Kumar Choudary, who proved a successful producer with the success of 'Vikramarkudu', is producing 'Don'. The regular shooting of the film is likely to begin in January and the film would be released as a summer special.

Sainikudu completes 80 per cent shoot

Gunasekhar, who gave a sensational hit like 'Okkadu' to Mahesh Babu, is handling the megaphone for 'Sainikudu' with the same hero who rewrote all the 75 years of Telugu film history with 'Pokiri'.

The film is being produced by C Aswinidutt. Another specialty is that Trisha, who won the hearts of the Telugu audiences with 'Varsham', 'Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana' and more recently with 'Stalin’, is pairing up with the Prince as female lead.

Some important scenes of the hero and heroine were shot in Padmalaya Studio recently. A song is being choreographed on Mahesh Babu and Trisha from September 19 at specially erected sets in Padmalaya and Annapurna studios.

Only canning of two songs remained balance for the film. Harris Jayraj is the music director. 'Sainikudu' will appear on the screen in November, says producer C Aswinidutt.

Ileana exits and Anushka enters Surya’s film

Viewers may recall that the popular and lucky Telugu star Ileana was booked to feature as Surya’s heroine in his new tamil movie, which is to be produced by Gnanavel Raja and directed by Vishnuvardhan. The movie is expected to hit the floor after the return of Surya and Jo from their honeymoon in Europe. Initially when the star cast of the film was announced, Ileana was the lady lead in the movie. But as per the latest news, she has been replaced with Anushka

The reason for Ileana’s exit is attributed to the whopping sum of Rs 70 lakhs that she demanded. This is a considerable portion in the budget of a film. Though Ileana is a well-established actress in Tollywood, she is a new entrant as far as Tamil industry is concerned. The Tamil movie KD where she is paired with Ravi Krishna is yet to hit the screen. Hence her demand is not justified enough and the producer has gone ahead in replacing her with Anushka.
